Value betting is a mathematical approach to betting. But it's still gambling, with real risks. This section isn't a formality: it's an essential part of your training.
What value betting is not
- It is not a guaranteed income. Most bettors lose in the long run, including many of those who think they have value.
- It is not a way to pay off debts or solve financial difficulties.
- It is not an investment. The money you stake can be lost in full.
The warning signs
Ask yourself these questions honestly:
- Do I stake more than planned to "win it back" after a loss?
- Do I hide my bets or my losses from the people close to me?
- Do I think about betting for a large part of the day?
- Do I bet with money meant for something else (rent, groceries, savings)?
- Do I feel irritable or anxious when I can't bet?
If you answer yes to one or more of these questions, it's time to take a break and talk to someone about it.
Good practices
- Set deposit limits and time limits with your operators (this is a mandatory feature at licensed operators).
- Never bet under the influence of alcohol, or when tired or angry.
- Take regular breaks, especially after a big loss or a big win.
- Use self-exclusion if you feel you're losing control.
